In this talk I will first introduce interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) and outline its theoretical foundations. I will speak to the centrality of meaning and meaning making in the conception of IPA. I will outline how IPA is done and discuss some features of this process. I will then illustrate IPA in action, making manifest a quest for meaning on the part of both participant and researcher. To do this I will be drawing on a collection of studies I have been involved in which explore the lived experience of pain.
